Modern Day Mentors: Entering the World of Gary Vee
It was early in 2018 when my life changed forever. I took the biggest leap of faith in my life. This leap did not involve Gary Vaynerchuk in the least bit. Being introduced to Gary during that time is memorable though with everything that went on in my life during that time.
When I first learned the Gary Vee name I really wasn’t sure what to think. He was a fast talker and from New York so I was kinda surprised that I had never heard of him. Being a Buffalo native I thought I would’ve known his name. I was wrong.
I soon became a little addicted (okay, a lot addicted). I became *embarrassingly* a crazed follower for a while but his words of wisdom got me through some rough times. And I am not alone in that. What I love about Gary is that he is very real, he is very unique and he is very genuine. He is a no bull shit kind of guy and I find that refreshing.
This is the first in a developing series that I refer to as Modern Day Mentors. This series is meant to push the concept of what a mentor can actually be. In the past mentors were viewed as having a direct impact on you as an individual but in the age of influencers, I believe this has morphed. It is easy to learn from people like Gary, people we know such as our parents or grandparents, or even one of my favorite poets and ones of the past like him, Robert Frost.
How has Gary Vaynerchuck Guided Me?
Gary is one of those people that brings sunshine into your life. It’s not like he farts rainbows or shoots cupid arrows but he is just happy and he exudes happiness. Honestly he can be blunt as fuck too and its adorable.
He often sends out reminder messages to love ourselves more, to remember that we are lucky to be alive and that we should follow our passions no matter where they lead. Unless they lead to death…then he might say to consider a new passion.
Those little rays of sunlight have helped me when I was down, when I was lost and when I was broken. They continue to help me today to remind me where I have been compared to where I am now and I should be nothing but grateful.
Gary has helped me to be me. In 2018 I had a really hard decision to make. I left one world behind me and entered a new one. For quite a while I doubted whether I made the right choice or not. Gary’s overall guidance helped me see that I had made the best decision for me. It helped me see that even though it was tough at times, I was on the right path even if I had to redraw my map.
He also reminds me to try and take action every single day. Even if it isn’t always what I want to do or I don’t get everything I want done, I can still see the productivity. Gary is pretty hyperactive when it comes to taking action and doing things like creating content but he is certainly someone to look up to as a possibility.
Gary Vee is one of those people that makes you realize you can accomplish anything you want if you put your mind to it and you take action. It is not like he pushes everyone to be a millionaire, in fact he constantly preaches that if you are perfectly happy living within your means doing what you love then pivot.
Gary also helps people try new things. Whether it is selling online or getting into NFT’s he is there and he gives lots of help and ideas along the way. He is an open book and is always willing to give genuine advice to people that ask him.
Perhaps by now I sound like that crazed follower from the past. The point of these articles though is to introduce those people that matter in my life and how they have contributed to who I am today. I may not have met him (yet) but the mark he has left in my life and the lives of countless others should not be missed.
And if you don’t know who Gary Fucking Vaynerchuk is…here’s his bio. Read it. Now that you know who he is, your life will change. Just sayin’.
Peace ✌️
